Recently we have made a couple trips to Kuaokala to watch the sunset off the trail but we were wondering what this side had to offer. So we started off early and parked at the top of the road near the informational sign. Off we went checking out this trail and that. As we were wrapping up our adventure the sun was high and we were cooking. It was hot! We made our way back to this spot where we took a break under the tree, hydrated and then pushed on. It was a great adventure.
Now there are some things you really should know:
- Go to https://trails.ehawaii.gov to get an online day permit for $2.50.
- Area open for bird hunting weekends, Nov - Jan. Avoid area on weekends during this time or wear an orange vest
- Stay off the restricted Air Force Road.
- Bring sunscreen and lots of water.
- Start early or late to avoid the heat.
- Hang out in the shade if you need to.
- Watch out for bovine!
