Geocache Description:

Essex Meadows is a Continuing Care Retirement Community ("CCRC") in Essex CT.  It is situated on 105 acres of low, forested land with many ponds.  It is separated from the 1,000 acre forest known as The Preserve by a crushed stone service road created by Eversource.  The simplest way to reach this cache is to park in the Essex Land Trust East Trailhead which is just off Ingham Hill Road IN ESSEX. (I put this in upper case as you can also reach Ingham Hill Road in Old Saybrook.  The remains of the old, connecting road still runs through The Preserve.  An old timer told me that long ago, the people in Saybrook walked north to shop in Essex.  Now we Essex Residents drive south to Old Saybrook to shop.  Times have changed!)  Walk eastward along the crushed stone road about 0.1 mile to a small kiosk with the rules for walking the Essex Meadows trails. Dogs are allowed but MUST be leashed.  Begin your search. This is one of only two caches Essex Meadows has hidden on its property. There are five PREMIUM caches nearby in The Preserve on the other side of the service road that were placed by jolly.roger. Have a look at them while you are in the neighborhood.
