Geocache Description:

Palace of Nestor

The Palace of Nestor was built in the 13th century BC and is the most well-preserved Mycenaean Palace in Greece.

It is located in the area of Pylia 4 kilometers south of the village of Chora on the hill of Epano Eglianos at a distance of 14 km from Pylos and 58 km from the city of Kalamata.

Nestor was the famous king of Pylos, son of Neleus, who holds an important position in the Homeric epics. Nestor led Pylos to the Trojan War with 90 ships and is presented by Homer as a wise old man.

What I think is especially exciting about this site, is that you'll see here the oldest bathtub ever discovered in any archaeological excavation, and it looks pretty much like a special nice contemporary one. If it wasn't forbidden you would probably fancy taking a bath in it.

The museum exhibiting the findings of this site is at the village of village of Chora about 4km away.

Το Ανάκτορο του Νέστορα

Το Ανάκτορο του Νέστορα χτίστηκε τον 13ο αιώνα π.Χ. και είναι το πιο καλά διατηρημένο Μυκηναϊκό Παλάτι στην Ελλάδα.
Βρίσκεται στην περιοχή της Πύλιας, 4 χιλιόμετρα νότια του χωριού Χώρα, στο λόφο του Επάνω Εγκλιανού, σε απόσταση 14 χλμ. Από την Πύλο και 58 χλμ. από την πόλη της Καλαμάτας.
Ο Νέστορας ήταν ο διάσημος βασιλιάς της Πύλου, γιος του Νηλέα, ο οποίος κατέχει σημαντική θέση στα ομηρικά έπη. Ο Νέστορας οδήγησε την Πύλο στον Τρωικό πόλεμο με 90 πλοία και ο Όμηρο τον παρουσιάζει ως έναν σοφό γέρο.

Αυτό που νομίζω ότι είναι ιδιαίτερα συναρπαστικό σε αυτόν τον αρχαιολογικό χώρο, είναι ότι εδώ βρίσκετε η παλαιότερη μπανιέρα που ανακαλύφθηκε ποτέ σε οποιαδήποτε αρχαιολογική ανασκαφή. Μοιάζει πολύ με ένα ιδιαίτερα ωραίο σύγχρονο λουτρό. Αν δεν απαγορευόταν, σίγουρα θα έμπαινε κανείς στον πειρασμό να κάνει και το μπάνιο εδώ.

Το μουσείο που εκθέτει τα ευρήματα του χώρου αυτού βρίσκεται στο χωριό Χώρα, περίπου 4χλμ. μακριά.

Admission is about 3€ for the archaeological site and about 2€ for the museum.
