Like geocaching, all great treasure hunting films aren’t about what one finds at the end, but about the journey one embarks on to get there. We all love a good movie, and we all love geocaching, but what if they could be combined? Well, now they can. In order to solve this puzzle, you will need to examine a variety of pop culture movies that are all about treasure hunting! These timeless classics are known by many, and probably by you, to be some of the greatest films of all time. But were you paying attention? Let’s find out…

Movie #1Raiders of the Lost Ark

36 years since Indy made his big screen debut, and he is still widely regarded as one of the most iconic movie characters of all time. The artifact-stealing, whip-cracking, boulder-avoiding hero has captured the hearts of fans for generations. He’s the whole package when it comes to Hollywood heroes: smart, funny, ruggedly handsome, has a nice hat, and most importantly, is great at stealing treasure. But in order to get such a reputation, just how many traps did Indy set off and avoid before grabbing the infamous Golden Idol in the photo above? That is the answer that will provide you with coordinate A (to which you must add 1).

Movie #2The Goonies

30 years since The Goonies was released, and it is still cherished to this day by many. Something about this film reminds everyone of their childhood, and what it was like to be a kid and to go on adventures with your friends. Perhaps my mind is clouded by nostalgia, but to me, no other film has come out that captures the sense of adventure like The Goonies did. The film hinges heavily on the find of the above “treasure map” in Mikey’s attic. Chunk states a significant date when he clumsily smashes the map’s frame. “Look, that says *blank*. Is that a year or something?”. The date Chunk states will give you the answer for coordinate B (to which you must subtract 892).

Movie #3The Mummy (1999)

Tom Cruise’s reboot of “The Mummy” that hit theatres this year just wasn't the same; the original was the one that was a must for me. This film has everything; action, some horror here and there, and subtle but hilarious humor. The best thing about this film though, is the way it prioritizes adventure. The most prominent obstacle in this film is, of course, the mummy itself, Imhotep. Imhotep`s main goal is to fully regenerate himself. The number of people he consumes, before being fully regenerated will give you coordinate C (to which you must add 3).

Movie #4National Treasure

A personal favorite of mine, and a film I feel is very underrated, has the last spot on this list. While critics say it is a knock-off of Indiana Jones, National Treasure yields exactly the right amount of fun and adventure. And all the while, it feels in part like a Mission: Impossible movie. The main plot revolves around the Templar treasure. It is being hunted down by Ben, who is introduced right from the very first scene. In this opening scene, a date appears on the screen. That date will give you coordinate D (to which you must subtract 1286).
