A quick and easy park and grab, for when you are driving a long distance and need a rest stop.
A rest place on the side of the Western Freeway can turn up some interesting places. This one however is a little tragic.
On the 28th of June in 2004, Charles Haber was working with a maintenance team on the Western Freeway when he was tragically killed near this place. At the GZ you will find a memorial to remember him. I stopped here on my solo trip to Grampians and was stretching my legs, when I spotted this memorial . Hopefully now this geocache might give you reason to pull over and pause for a short time and take stock on safety around roadworks.
Please take care around the memorial. The geocache is located on the base of a fat fence post about 7-8m from the memorial.
While the geocache is well off the freeway in a rest stop, please be careful with children in this area. Might be best that they stay in the car for this one.
No room for a pen, so please bring your own.
