Geocache Description:

18 May 2019, 10:00 - 14:00

Ouabache is difficult to spell, but easy to pronounce. Simply say 'Wabash'!

The 18th Annual Indiana Spring Picnic
Ouabache State Park
Lodge Recreation Building
May 18, 2019

Schedule:

10:00 am - Registration & ice breaker (sign the log, grab a nametag)
12:00 pm - Lunch (see details below)
12:45 pm - Game prizes awarded
1:00 pm - Group photo
2:00 pm - Clean up and head out!

*Note: We have the building reserved for the whole day and you are more than welcome to hang out. But if you choose to stay at the shelter, we ask that you leave the area clean so we do not incur any surprise clean-up fees.

Pitch-In Lunch:

Plates, plastic ware and napkins will be provided. If you would like to join in, please bring your own entree and drinks, plus a dish to share. Assigning dishes by name doesn't really seem to work out, so we're going to wing it this year and hope we don't end up with 27 boxes of cookies to toss out! The building has electricity and we will provide a couple of power strips, so crock pots should not be a problem. Be creative... deli salads are easy, but often get thrown away at the end of the day. Home made dishes are always big hits!

NOTE: If you bring an item that needs to be cut up, please do this ahead of time. If your dish requires a serving utensil, please provide your own... we have thrown away TONS of food over the past years because people have no way to serve themselves.

Participation in the pitch-in is absolutely NOT mandatory; but if you choose not to bring a dish, please let others who did bring something line up first. Then after everyone has passed through once, it's a free-for-all!

We will also provide small trash bags and ask that you CITO out your own trash. This event generates quite a lot of garbage, and this minor request helps us enormously.

There should be plenty of picnic table seating, but if you prefer to bring your own chair, please feel free. There is a large, lovely lawn with a lake view -- take advantage!

Activities:

Closest to the Pin contest will go on from 10am until Noon. Prize awarded after lunch.

A get-to-know-your-neighbor Meet & Greet game will be available. Once your sheet is filled, turn it in for an opportunity to win a prize (awarded after lunch).

We will have a 50/50 raffle available for $1 per ticket -- the winner gets 50% of the total pot, with the other 50% going to recoup costs incurred by the hosts.

For the door prizes: All adults (18+) who attend will receive a door prize ticket -- we have a limited number of door prizes this year, prizes will be announced throughout the day. You must be present to win.

**If you would like to donate items for door prizes, please let us know. All donations are GREATLY appreciated.**

As mentioned earlier, there is a large lawn next to the rec building. We will bring some lawn games and invite you to bring your own as well!

Notes:

There is a gate fee to enter this park: As of the published date of this event, non-commercial vehicles with Indiana license plates are $7, with out-of-state plates $9. *Please note that this information is current as of the date this event was posted. We will change if needed, but you may also check the Indiana DNR website for the most up-to-date information regarding entrance fees.

Per the INDNR, this building is ADA accessible.

Bathrooms are available on site.

A special custom event tag will be available for purchase at the event ($3/each or 2/$5).

We gladly welcome pets at our event. However per park rules, pets must be kept on a leash at all times and cannot enter the main building; and of course, please clean up after your furry friend as needed.

Camping:

Camp sites are now available through the IDNR Reservation website.

A campground map will be uploaded to this page shortly, showing existing reservations. We will update as necessary -- if you would like your site on the map, please post your reserved site number here or on the Facebook event page.
