VERONA MINOR HIERUSALEM

I pellegrini che tornavano dalla Terra Santa vedevano in alcuni luoghi della città qualcosa che richiamava i luoghi sacri che avevano visitato e ne fecero luogo di culto costruendovi le chiese. Più avanti la tradizione venne ripresa nel IX secolo dall’Arcidiacono Pacifico  che, nella sua opera di sistemazione delle chiese, parla per la prima volta di minor Hierusalem.
E tale appellativo viene addirittura inciso nel sigillo della città nel 1474 accanto all’effige di San Zeno “Verona Minor Hierusalem di Zenoni Patron”.

Ma quali sono i luoghi e le chiese che nel medio evo consentivano ai pellegrini di surrogare le visite in Terra Santa, non facilmente raggiungibile,  frequentando la piccola Gerusalemme ?

1. San Rocchetto che ricorda il luogo della crocefissione, il Golgota e dove i pellegrini fecero erigere tre croci ed un sepolcro. Ora, ciò che rimane è all’interno della chiesa e nel nome del monte su cui è eretta che è Cavro, contrazione di Calvario
2. Santa Maria di Nazareth che ricordava l’evento dell’annunciazione in una situazione topograficamente simile alla Nazareth della terra santa
3. Santa Maria di Betlemme, ora San Zeno in Monte che ricorda la nascita di Gesù. Fino al 1444 veniva pagato un censo annuale al vescovo di Betlemme
4. La chiesa del Santo Sepolcro, ora Santa Toscana che ricordava il sepolcro di Gesù
5. Santissima Trinità in Monte Oliveto che ricordava il Monte degli Ulivi eretta appunto su un monte chiamato Oliveto
6. La chiesa  dei Santi Siro e Libera come memoria del cenacolo. E’ qui che, secondo la tradizione, venne celebrata da San Siro la prima messa (Siro il giovane che porse a Gesù i pani ed i pesci )
7. Santa Maria in Organo che ricorda l’entrata di Gesù a Betlemme.  Custodisce al suo interno una muletta in legno del XII secolo che rappresenta Gesù in groppa ad un asino
8. Sant’Elena che ricorda il ritrovamento delle prime reliquie, rievocazione del primo pellegrinaggio.

Questa wherigo non ve le farà vedere tutte ma vi porterà in un breve tragitto  a visitarne alcune fino ad arrivare al final e …. dopo il final ….. come le tracce nascoste dei dischi ……..

Questa wherigo si può liberamente fare tutti i giorni con orario dalle 10.00 alle 17.30 partendo dalla chiesa sconsacrata di San Pietro Martire, dove chi vorrà, potrà entrare ed approfondire le notizie sulle chiese.

Ora che la chiesa di San Siro e Santa Libera resterà chiusa per qualche anno gli stage 2 e 3 sono quasi sovrapposti. Abbiate cura di guardare dall’esterno la chiesa. La cosa positiva è che si ampliano gli orari in cui è possibile giocare questa wherigo.

The pilgrims returning from the Holy Land saw in some places of the city something that recalled the places they had visited and made it a place of worship by building churches there. And this name is even engraved in the seal of the city in 1474 next to the effigy of San Zeno "Verona Minor Hierusalem by Zenoni Patron".

But what are the places and the churches that in the Middle Ages allowed the pilgrims to substitute visits to the Holy Land, not easly accessible, by visiting the little Jerusalem?

1. San Rocchetto which recalls the place of the crucifixion, the Golgotha ​​and where the pilgrims erected three crosses and a tomb. Now, what remains is inside the church and in the name of the mountain on which it is erected it is Cavro, contraction of Calvary
2. Saint Mary of Nazareth who recalled the event of the Annunciation in a situation topographically similar to the Nazareth of the Holy Land
3. Saint Mary of Bethlehem, now Saint Zeno in Monte that reminds of the birth of Jesus. Until 1444 an annual census was paid to the bishop of Bethlehem
4. The Church of the Holy Sepulcher, now Holy Tuscany that reminded of the tomb of Jesus
5. Holy Trinity in Monte Oliveto that reminded the Mount of Olives erected on a mountain called Oliveto
6. The Church of the Saints Siro and Libera as memory of the cenacle. It is here that, according to tradition, the first mass was celebrated by San Siro (Siro the young man who handed Jesus the loaves and the fishes)
7. Santa Maria in Organo which recalls the entrance of Jesus to Bethlehem. It houses inside a twelfth-century wooden windmill that represents Jesus on the back of a donkey
8. Saint Helena that recalls the discovery of the first relics, re-enactment of the first pilgrimage.

This wherigo will not show you all but will take you on a short ride to visit some of them until you get to the final and .... after the final ... .. like the hidden tracks of CD ...... ..

This wherigo you can freely do every day from 10.00 am to 5.30 pm starting from the deconsecrated church of San Pietro Martire, where those who want will be able to enter and deepen the news on the churches.

Now that the church of San Siro and Santa Libera will remain closed for a few years, stages 2 and 3 are almost overlapping. Take care to look at the church from the outside. The good thing is that the times when it is possible to play this wherigo are growing.
