The name of the breed comes from Pomerania which is in the region of Northern Europe where they originated late 1800s. They have foxlike faces and triangle ears which point up. They are affectionately known as Poms or Pom Poms. The Pomeranian descended from big sled dogs but were bred down in size by Queen Victoria! Pomeranians can make wonderful therapy dogs and are also trained as hearing assistance dogs.
Famous Pomeranian owners include Sir Isaac Newton, Martin Luther, Mozart and Michelangelo.
FUN FACT: Mozart dedicated an aria to his beloved dog Pimperl!
