This cache is located near to the site of the Maze Prison which closed in 2000. The prison was initially developed on the site of the old RAF Long Kesh airfield in 1972 as a temporary holding centre for internment prisoners. Temporary became permanent, as the prison expanded to become the main prison during"the troubles". After closure the site was earmarked for development into a national stadium, housing and leisure facilities, but this failed to happen due to lack of agreement among local politicians, The site is now home to the annual Balmoral Agriculture show and N.Irelands first Air Ambulance Service
The cache is a black micro tube - 4cm x 1cm with room for only the log sheet. Please BYOP and tweezers. Please replace the cache exactly in the position found. Stealth will be required as this is at a busy location with lots of passing traffic and the nearby Maze site gatehouse
Parking is available a few hundred metres along the road opposite the community hall.
