We have come to love the Dave Moore nature area. It is a walk through a riparian area with mature oaks, madrone, cedar, and ponderosa pines. The loop trail takes you to two awesome beaches on the South Fork American River.
Here are the instructions for finding the cache:
- Start at the parking coordinates. Pass the restrooms at the start of the trail. Take a moment to read the brass dedication plaque and then continue on down the trail.
- You will pass a picnic table on the left.
- Continue on the trail until you come to the awesome "Mushroom Rock" on the right. There will be a second picnic table on the left.
- Continue on until you see a magnificent Madrone Tree on your right. Starting counting the bridges you will cross here.
- You will come to an area where there is a head-high rock wall left over from the Gold Rush on your left. It is about 150 feet long.
- The Trail takes a 90° turn to the left. If you continue straight, it will take you to the lower beach.
- Continue on the trail to the left and cross bridge number two.
- You will go through an area where the trail narrows as it passes through the rocks. There is a trail here that takes you to the upper beach. Stay left.
- You will pass a BIG rock on the left of the trail. Kids love to climb on this one. Continue on until you come to another large (but smaller than the climbing) rock on the left of the trail. Pass that and look for a dead vertical tree trunk right next to the trail. You will find the cache inside a cavity in the trunk.
After getting the cache, consider continuing on the loop trail which will take you past another beach, a cache and, eventually, to the parking lot.
Bring the family. I had two three-year olds help me place this.
Please leave the stamp and stamp pad in the cache. Thanks
