The site may look familiar as there had been a cache here by elyob that was archived in 2017. Since there was no fun in leaving a vacant space on the trail, I removed the old containers and put a new cache in its place.
The cache is located near milepost 78 which stood along a rail line. The rail line was opened in 1877 and would become part of the Quebec, Montreal, Ottawa and Occidental (QMO&O) line. The Quebec government which financed much of the construction did not want to run a railway and so the line was sold in 1882 to the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR).
The rails were removed in 1986 and the rail bed which is now owned by Via Rail became the Prescott and Russell Recreational Trail which was inaugurated in 2006. The agreement between Via and Prescott-Russell lasts until 2020.
You are looking for a micro sized cache that is winter friendly depending on the amount of snow. Please return the container exactly as found.
