Ludington State Park is hosting 2 types of winter snowshoe events this year which begin at the parks warming shelter.
No reservations are needed for these events, just show up! All winter events are free to participate however the vehicle recreational pass will be required to enter with a vehicle. This can be obtained at time of the plate registration for your automobile or a day pass can be obtained at the park's office. The 3rd option is to park outside of the park and simply walk in.
The first type of event is a guided snowshoe walk lasting roughly 90 minutes every Saturday @ 2PM January 5th through February 16th and again at 6PM Saturday January 12th, 26th and February 9th. The park has snowshoes to loan at no cost (60 pair of assorted sizes fitting ages 8 and up) for the walk on a first come first serve basis. The walk is rated as "easy".
The second type of event is a lantern lit snowshoe and ski trail hike, The dates of this are Saturday January 5th, 19th, February 2nd, 16th beginning at the parks warming shelter. The duration of this hike is 2 hours beginning at 6PM. It will consist of roughly 1 mile of lantern lit trail ending with bonfires at both the warming shelter and amphitheater. As with the other event the park has snowshoes to loan at no cost on a first come first serve basis.
For those die hard's, the park is open year round for camping. Go crazy, pitch a tent!!! :)
