The Pines #1 - Tamarisk Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

BendSinister: Time to shut up shop. If only as an impediment to placing more stuff. :)

Many thanks to the dozen or so people wot purported to get something out of my silly cache ideas over the last 5 years!

This cache is still in place, but not for long. Let me know if you need more than a day or two to sign the log.

EDIT 13/7: cache now removed with assistance from the final finder. Thank you fabulous final finder. :)

Geocache Description:

This is possibly the least celebrated corner of The Pines Flora & Fauna Reserve in the aftermath of its bisection by a freeway. But it evidently remains home to wallabies, echidnae, blue-tongue lizards, countless birds and, no doubt, a few species I'm glad not to have encountered.

This is a fairly straightforward multi, though there are a number of steps. There's no particular trickery involved and the required tasks will likely be familiar. However, you may wish to employ an extra app or website at the end. (That's the extent of the 'tool' use -- strictly 'soft' tools.)

Note that only Waypoint W and GZ are more than a handful of metres from established tracks, though one of the tracks is minor and unnamed. If you find yourself engaging in fully-fledged bush-bashing before the approach to GZ you're doing it wrong.

Waypoint M

The starting coordinates should put you in the vicinity of a three-panel sign identifying the major tracks in the area. There's nothing to find at this location, but Waypoint M, your first destination, is nearby.

Your task is to locate the pictured Melbourne Water appliance which lies between 100 and 200 metres from this starting point. This is Waypoint M.

Melbourne Water appliance
(Note: sometimes it looks like THIS or maybe like THIS.)

This is not as difficult a task as it may seem. Its location is well marked and it's nearly visible from the starting coordinates.

Record its location and estimate the distance, D and bearing, B from the starting coordinates to this new waypoint M. Aim for fairly decent accuracy as you need these numbers to locate the next waypoint.

Waypoints W, T and E

Waypoint W is 1.23 x D metres from Waypoint M, at a bearing of 0.82 x B degrees

Proceed through waypoints W, T, E and O in that order. You'll notice in the waypoint listing that each has an extended descriptive name, so there's little mystery about the features to look out for.

At each of Waypoints W, T and E you will find a metallic tag bearing the name of that waypoint and the relative position of the next.

Waypoint O

This waypoint is a little different. Here you will find a 2D code bearing some final helpful advice.

GZ

The general location of the cache shouldn't be difficult to discern. Please ensure that it's well concealed after signing the log. And, as always, please be mindful of potential spoilers in your online log.

Conditions have made the cache a little more difficult to find over 4+ years, so let's trial Geocheck -- made moderately lenient -- for added reassurance. Though I hasten to add that a negative result still doesn't necessarily mean you're not broadly on track.
