Le Locomotive FS 625
Le locomotive a vapore del gruppo 625 FS sono macchine a vapore destinate ad impiego misto merci/viaggiatori, prodotte per conto delle Ferrovie dello Stato all'inizio del XX secolo. Vennero soprannominate Signorine, per la linea aggraziata e le dimensioni compatte ed ebbero grande diffusione sulle linee secondarie collinari e pianeggianti.
Si tratta di una evoluzione del gruppo 600, un veicolo molto apprezzato per il passo rigido molto corto e per la flessibilità data dall'innovazione del carrello italiano, che permetteva di ridurre i danni all'armamento della linea in curva grazie alla possibilità di ruotare e traslare lateralmente di 40 mm.
Ne vennero prodotti 188 esemplari tra il 1910 e il 1922, oltre ad altri 153 esemplari riconvertiti.
Restarono in esercizio fino al 1976, dopo di che rimasero a disposizione per servizi di emergenza, di recupero e di manovra. L’ultima macchina di questo tipo è stata radiata nel 1988.
A Desenzano del Garda è esposta come monumento la 625.076, che prestò servizio sulla linea Desenzano-Desenzano Porto.
La ferrovia Desenzano-Desenzano Porto
La ferrovia Desenzano-Desenzano Porto, nota anche come Desenzano-Lago e come ferrovia Maratona, era una breve linea che collegava la stazione di Desenzano al suo porto, allo scopo di trasferire le merci dal porto alla stazione ferroviaria, posta più in alto rispetto al livello del lago.
La linea venne inaugurata il 22 marzo 1909 e restò attiva fino al 1969, trasportando merci e passeggeri.
Con l’incremento del traffico stradale, grazie anche all’apertura delle strade statali 45 bis e 249, la navigazione mercantile perse di interesse ed il traffico merci sulla linea si ridusse drasticamente.
La linea venne ufficialmente soppressa nel 1977 e subito smantellata, mentre la stazione del treno fu trasformata in parcheggio ed area giochi.

The FS 625 Locomotives
The steam locomotives of the 625 FS group are steam engines for mixed freight / passenger use, produced on behalf of the State Railways at the beginning of the 20th century. They were nicknamed Signorine (Italian for young ladies), because of their perceived grace and beauty compared to other locomotives and they had great diffusion on the hilly and flat secondary lines.
This is an evolution of the pre-existing 600 group, a highly appreciated vehicle for the very short rigid step and for the flexibility given by the innovation of the Italian trolley, which allowed to reduce the damage to the armament of the line in the curve thanks to the possibility of rotating and translate laterally 40 mm.
Between 1910 and 1922 were produced 188 copies, as well as 153 other specimens rebuilt.
They remained in operation until 1976, after which they remained available for emergency services, recovery and maneuvering. The last machine of this type was radiated in 1988.
In Desenzano del Garda, 625.076 is exhibited as a monument, which served on the Desenzano-Desenzano Porto line.
The Desenzano-Desenzano Porto railway line
The Desenzano-Desenzano Porto railway, also known as Desenzano-Lago and as a Maratona railway, was a short line connecting the Desenzano station to its port, with the aim of transferring goods from the port to the railway station, located higher than the lake level.
The line was inaugurated on 22 March 1909 and remained active until 1969, transporting goods and passengers.
With the increase in road traffic, thanks also to the opening of the national roads 45 bis and 249, the merchant shipping lost interest and the goods traffic on the line decreased drastically.
The line was officially suppressed in 1977 and immediately dismantled, while the train station was transformed into a parking lot and play area.
