#4 La coltivazione delle pesche
La località prende il nome da una vecchia casa padronale detta “dei tanti Balconi”, ora ristrutturata, che aveva sulla facciata appunto tanti piccoli balconi.
Tra le attività economiche del territorio ha un ruolo centrale la coltivazione del pesco. Il terreno, caratterizzato da un substrato permeabile e calcareo, e la posizione soleggiata e vicina al fiume, costituiscono un habitat favorevole per questo tipo di coltura che era presente, sia pure in forma ridotta, già in epoca romana. A partire dal XVII secolo la coltivazione del pesco conobbe una vera e propria diffusione. Con la costruzione delle ruote idrovore e il progressivo sviluppo delle tecniche di irrigazione, sempre più terre vennero infatti destinate alla produzione della pesca.
Nel secolo scorso, l’introduzione di sistemi colturali quali impianti, potature e trattamenti per limitare la diffusione delle malattie, e la costruzione del canale di irrigazione negli anni ’20, ne determinarono la definitiva affermazione, tanto che oggi le pesche di Pescantina hanno conquistato il mercato nazionale ed estero, meritando l’attenzione dei tecnici per le loro qualità organolettiche.

#4 La coltivazione delle pesche
The place is named by an old manor, known as "the many Balconi", now restored, with its small balconies on the facade.
Among the economic activities of the area, the peach cultivation has a central role. The ground, characterised by a permeable and calcareous sub-strate, and the sunny and close to the river, are a favorable habitat for this type of cultivation that was present, even in small form, already in Roman times. From the seventeenth century the cultivation of peach trees spread diffusely. With the construction of the water pump wheels and the progressive development of the irrigation techniques, more and more land was given over to the production of peaches. In the last century, the introduction of cultivation systems such as installations, pruning and treatments to limit the spreading of diseases and the construction of the irrigation channel in the 1920s were the signs of ultimate success, so much so that today the peaches from Pescantina have con-quered the national and international market, worthy of the experts attention for their flavour, perfume and texture.
