Geocache Description:

Welcome to Bellamy Dog Zone in Scarborough

This is Geocache #10 in the growing series of Milli Doggy Park Adventures.

I was in the area, attending a nearby CITO event, and saw this location.  Since I had been dragging Milli around all morning in the geo-mobile, it was time for her to stretch her legs.  We are always looking forward to a new Dog Park Experience.

Welcome to Another one of Milli’s Doggy Park Adventures.

About the Park

If you’re a dog owner living near Progress Avenue and Bellamy Road, you’ll likely be interested in the new “Bellamy Dog Zone” in your neighbourhood.

This new space is located south of Progress Avenue, and the entrance is on the east side of Bellamy Road.  The Dog Zone, which opened on December 1, is open to the public every weekend, on statutory holidays, and during weekdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.  At other times, the space is reserved for dogs from the Scarborough Animal Shelter.

This Bellamy Dog Zone is an extension of the Animal Shelter, whereas local “dog parks” are run by the City’s Parks and Recreation Department. When using the Dog Zone, you must have your dog on leash at all times, unless you are using the off-leash area, and you must pick up after your pet. View other rules in the Code of Conduct.

The Dog Zone has solar-powered lighting. Street parking is allowed on Bellamy Road outside of rush hour.

The Cache:

You are looking for a Bison Tube [wrapped in camouflage tape], hanging low on the corner post.  This geocache is accessible from inside, or outside of the Off Leash Area, you do not need to enter this dog park to find this cache.  However, if you have your own geo-pooch with you, you will likely get to visit the inside as well.

Milli's Warning About this Park:

As I was leaving a nearby cache with BugFinders, I noticed a new dog run, I sure wanted to come back here, I love new Doggy Parks, so many smells so little time.  But this one was different:  It reminded me of the Jail I was in, before BugFinders adopted me.  It had double fencing walls, 10 feet high, that a kangaroo could never jump over, steel entrance and exit gates, and stainless steel locks.  This was no park, it was a "DOG POUND", where good dogs get to visit the in-mutts, locked in their cages.

In this Dog Zone, I felt trapped - but still I wandered to the other end to check out the smells. That's when the in-mutts started to bark and howl at me, like a coyote after a jack rabbit.  Yup, a doggie jail!  Get me out of here!
