Geocache Description:

Since I started coming to Blue Ridge several years ago, I've noticed that the number of caches in and around town have significantly dwindled.  I thought it was time to do something about this by placing a new cache a couple of miles from downtown Blue Ridge.

As one approaches the cache, the relevance of staurolite to this cache will become obvious.  Since I had no idea what staurolite is, I googled it.  It turns out that it is the state mineral of Georgia and, within the US, is most commonly found in Fannin County.  According to Wikipedia, it is a red-brown to black, mostly opaque neosilicate mineral with a white streak.

The cache is hidden adjacent to one of the few spots along this road with easy, off-road parking.  Please replace as found to make it possible for future cachers to access it easily.
