Geocache Description:

Cache #45

I was disappointed when the old cache (GC13GZ0) that was located at this great little reserve was archived – was not surprising given the age that the CO was no longer active. The old signage on the top of the lookout has been removed and this provided the necessary clues. There is much better access to the lookout now (the old ladder was pretty steep) and it looks like there will be more interps in the future, but I thought I would put another cache here as it is a great place to visit. There are toilet and picnic facilities so bring lunch and enjoy the view.

The following information is taken from the original cache page:

A famous bushranger terrorized the district in the early 1860's. He used this location as a great vantage point to spot any approaching troopers.

The place came to fame again during the shearers strike of the 1890's.

The view is absolutely breathtaking.

The site is on private property, so unlike the previous incarnation I have placed the final GZ at a nearby public location where the lookout can be spied. To get there visit the following two points and glean the required information from the available signs.

WP1 - the Lookout

To gather this information you will need to walk around the peak AND climb the steps to the lookout

Looking south from the lookout, Loka Mountain has a maximum elevation of 72A metres

The Billabong Creek is believed to be the longest creek at the world at 3B0 kilometres

Looking west from the lookout there are two peaks with the same elevation - 2C0 metres

Dan Morgan “the most blood thirsty of the Bushrangers” was born in 183D

The catchment of the Billabong Creek is E91 square kilometres

There are 3 species of Box and F species of gum named on the sign titled “Local Plants and Animals” (all are in the genus Eucalyptus)

WP2 - the Entrance Gate

The number on the right hand side of the grid is G8

The speed limit in the reserve is H0 km/h

The last number of the “Contact Phone” = J

The last number of the “A/Hours:” = K

The camouflaged 380ml Sistema can be found at (note original hide compromised so some additional maths now required):

S35 HC.EFJ (add .009)

E 146 AG.DKB (subtract .009)

Please park safely and watch out for snakes in warmer weather.

Important in the reserve:

  • Access between 8am and 5.30pm only!
  • If you bring your dog it must be kept on a leash.
  • Lighting of fires is strictly prohibited (no exceptions)

Enjoy!
