The Scouts (BSA) "Cache to Eagle" series is a National program to highlight past Eagle Scout projects. This is the second cache for the Chester County Council (CCC), celebrating our council's 100th anniversary!
The trailhead coordinates will take you to the Mill Race Trail kiosk. This Eagle project is by scouts from Troop 53, Octoraro District of the Chester County Council. It includes the kiosk and road signs, boardwalk, and benches along Mill Race Trail.
Visit the Mill Race trail, observe the rocky remnants of the abandoned mill dam, concrete abutments of "Bridge 42," (future creek crossing site), enjoy the benches, footbridge, beaver activity (those beavers are ambitious!), and hike the 1.2 mile loop, along the abandoned trail bed of the Pomeroy & Newark Railroad and the White Clay Creek. Enjoy the black walnut, osage orange, sycamore, red oak, American beech, red maple, tulip poplar, and other trees. Read the Daily Local News coverage of the passenger train wreck at Bridge 42 in January, 1904.
Please observe New Garden Township Trails rules. Trails are open from dawn to dusk. Dogs must be leashed. No horses or bikes. Do not disturb surrounding trees or plants. Placed with permission of New Garden Township.
Replace the cache exactly as found. If you have difficulty with the cache or container, please contact the CO (Cache Owner), CCCCacheToEagle.
