Duck and Cover (CM#17) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dogliest: Stopped by for a spring check-up and found the vegetation was being cleared at ground zero. The cache survived, but the changes make it time to retire the cache. Maybe the container will appear somewhere else!

Geocache Description:

All of Southcentral Alaska was ducking and covering last week when a 7.0 earthquake rattled everything for over a minute on Friday, November 30 at 8:30 am.  It was the largest quake here since the 1964 Good Friday quake.  The following week still had daily aftershocks of 4.0 or higher.  Fortunately nobody has been seriously injured, but the schools were closed for more than a week and many businesses and homes were damaged.

This cache provides a great place to contemplate the earthquake as it has quite the view of parts of Anchorage and on a good day you can see the active volcanoes on the Alaska Range.  The area is not the safest place during a large earthquake, but it survived the 7.0 quake well enough.  The cache itself has a little container mischief, of course....
