Geocache Description:

According to this NYT column from 2005 (where Michael Pollack did all the hard work), there are two official methods for calculating the center of a city. If you had a flat plate containing all of the city’s landmass, the point where it’d balance is the geographic center. According to the Department of City Planning, that’s right here at GZ for the five boroughs!

The other method takes into account all residents’ home addresses to calculate a population center, which is somewhere north up in Maspeth.
