La villa, che deve al suo nome al magnate dell’industria austriaco Adolf Gruber che l’acquistò nel 1856, fu costruita dal nobile genovese Stefano de Mari nella seconda metà del Cinquecento nell’elegante quartiere di Castelletto, sorge subito al di sotto dell’antica cinta di mura in posizione elevata e panoramica all’interno di un ampio parco, lo spazio verde si distingueva per la sua bellezza, fontane, scale, terrazze panoramiche, aiuole e giganteschi alberi secolari, negli anni, vari interventi di ristrutturazione, portarono Villa Gruber ad essere quella che conosciamo oggi.
Nella prima metà del novecento la proprietà passò ad una società che divise il parco in lotti sfruttandone una parte per la costruzione di palazzine residenziali.
Oggi Villa Gruber è di proprietà del Comune di Genova che l’ha adibita a parco pubblico, un gradevole spazio verde per gli abitanti del quartiere di Castelletto e non solo.

The villa, which owes its name to the magnate of the Austrian industry Adolf Gruber who bought it in 1856, was built by the Genoese nobleman Stefano de Mari in the second half of the sixteenth century in the elegant neighborhood of Castelletto, located just below the ancient walled in elevated position and panoramic inside a large park, the green space was distinguished by its beauty, fountains, stairs, panoramic terraces, flower beds and gigantic old trees, over the years, various renovations, brought Villa Gruber to be the one we know today.
In the first half of the twentieth century the property passed to a company that divided the park into lots exploiting a part for the construction of residential buildings.
Today Villa Gruber is owned by the Municipality of Genoa, which has turned it into a public park, a pleasant green space for the inhabitants of the Castelletto district and beyond.
