Lloyd Christmas is a character in the 1994 movie "Dumb and Dumber", and is played by Jim Carrey. The movie was produced for a budget of $17 million, $7 million of which was Carrey's salary. His co-star, Jeff Daniels was paid a mere $50 000 for his role as Harry Dunne..
The movie nearly recovered its costs the first weekend of its release, opening at #1, and raking in $16.4 million. Despite lukewarm reviews (5.9 on "Rotten Tomatoes, for example), it went on to earn $247.3 million at the box office, making it one of the most successful comedies ever.
The movie did not receive any major awards, outside of the 1995 MTV Movie awards where Carrey won for "Best Comic Performer", and Carrey and Daniels scooped up the award for "Best Duo".
Carrey and Daniels reprised their roles in the 2003 prequel "Dumb and Dumberer - When Harry Met Floyd" which was a bust. They refused to become involved with the sequel "Dumb and Dumber To" in 2014.
