I was born a Toronto Maple Leafs fan. My Dad, a Montreal fan, swore I was born with a Leaf jersey on. My earliest memories of hockey were all about the Leafs. Spent many Saturday nites watching the Leafs on a black & white TV,with only 2 channels and rabbit ears. With Mom & Dad habs fans it always made for a fun evening.
They have won 4 Stanley Cups during my lifetime but it has been a long time since the last win in 1967. This is really tough on a fan but living in Canuckville, who haven't won it since coming in to the league and only have 1 win, in 1915 as the Millionaires, still gets me bragging rights.

The Leafs originally entered the NHL in 1917 playing as the Toronto Arenas. In 1919 it was changed to the St Patricks and then to the current Leafs in 1927. They have won 13 cups second only to the Habs (Boo Hiss, I won't go there). The franchise can be broken down to the early years 1917-27, Con Smythe era 1927-1961, new owners and a new dynasty 1961-1971, the Ballard years 1971-1990, resurgence 1991-2004, after the lockout 2005-2014 and the present day team, Brendan Shanahan era, 2014-to present.
Most die-hard fans are excited by the current roster and direction of the franchise. The team has had 21 captains, the last being Dion Phaneuf but have been without a Captain since 2016. The Leafs have retired the numbers of 19 players but only 13 numbers as some players used the same number. My all-time favorite Leaf, Dave Keon, has had his #14 retired. 260 Leaf players are in the Hockey Hall of Fame. They also hold a few NHL records like most points in 1 game - 10 by Darryl Sittler, most goals in their 1st NHL game - 4 by Austin Matthews, goals in a period - 4 by Busher Jackson, assists in a period - 6 by Babe Pratt to name a few.
