This gate was overlooked during the 12 Gates of Christmas (12 GoC) from 2017. But it is a gate that needs a cache, according to a certain now-locally-famous log:
So here it is, with just a few days left until Christmas, a simple gate cache to get geocachers into that "caching mood" for the holdiays...
With a just a few days 'til Christmas, mrGreen317 hid for me, another gate cache in a small evergreen tree...
This geocache is a medium-sized bison container hanging on the branch of a small evergreen tree at the given coordinates. It should almost be a park and grab, just down the SGL road past the gate. NOTE: You do not need to bushwack down from parking, just follow the game lands road a number of feet until it becomes level with the surrounding forest, and then the cache should be easy to get to turning toward your right. The location is SGL 108 off Marina Rd, and even though the cache is near the gate, please exercise sensible precautions if hunters are in the area. During the peak hunting seasons, orange is required to be worn in SGL (except on Sunday, when there is no hunting).
Also, please do not park in such a way as to block the gate or the SGL road. Under normal weather conditions, there should be plenty of parking space. Use caution and know your vehicle limitations when attempting to access snowy SGL parking areas.
The cache is a micro, so bring your own writing tool. The log slip is "Rite in the Rain" paper, so it should resist getting wet, however, a pencil will work best if the slip is wet when you go to sign it. If the slip is dry, a standard ball point pen will do fine. Water-based inks may not write on the paper very well and should be avoided if possible.
Congratulations to KB3PPS and KB3PPR for a not-so-snowy-in-the-valley, pre-Christmas FTF. Merry Christmas to you and your family! There was no snow here when this cache was hidden on 12/19/2018, and very little on the day of publishing, 12/22/2018. No footprints to follow anywhere in the snow... ;)
Many thanks to the beat62 from the 2018 Bison Exchange event (GC7Z5HM) in December 2018 for providing the original container used on this geocache. A newer container has since replaced it on 3/15/2021.
