Geocache Description:

Middle Road, turning into Locust Street spans 20 miles, beginning in northeast Bettendorf and ending in western Davenport. It is a thoroughfare for traffic in Scott County. This is a FTF Power Trail, beginning at the start of Middle Road. A "Power Trail" is a series of at least 50 geocaches within close proximity. A "FTF Power Trail" means that if you are the "first to find" (i.e. the 'FTF') of a cache in this series, PLEASE 'PAY IT FORWARD' BY PLACING THE NEXT CACHE ALONG THIS TRAIL, AND PLEASE DO SO WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF GETTING THE FTF. Keep in mind that some areas will be higher muggle traffic than others, so you may have to be creative in your hides, or may have to dive slightly off course to put out a hide.

In 1908, the Davenport School Board purchased a square block area in the fair grounds addition to provide a new school for the northwest area of Davenport. The following year a bond issue vote was held for $60,000 to build and equip a new school. And thus, Johnson Elementary School was built, and opened in 1910. In 1939 and 1940, renovations were made to the building to convert it to a grade K-6 school to provide the same programs that would be offered in the newer school buildings. In 1954, an addition provided for an all purpose room to serve as an auditorium and gymnasium.

At the close of the 2001-2002 school year, the building was closed and students were sent to neighboring schools. Grant Elementary, Johnson's 'twin' building on the east side of town, was closed at the same time. The following year, both buildings were sold for other uses.

Johnson School is was listed on the Davenport Register of Historic Properties on November 30, 2004. As of today, it is owned and operated by The Five Points Wellness Center and houses EIGHT different businesses.

BTW... BOTH DTCBears and MathMate attended Johnson Elementary School before moving on to attend Williams Intermediate School!
