Geocache Description:

The devil's tear

Devil's Tear is a unique cave pool on the edge of rocky cliffs which can be found on Nusa Lembongan island. In addition that there are lots of little coves and corners in this area for little adventures and exploring. As the sun begins to set the tidepools turn into reflection pools and the scene becomes nothing short of amazing, which is why I throw around the term, ‘Best sunset in Bali’.

Coastal erosion

Nusa Lembongan has a so-called abrasion coast (cliffed coast) and the shape of the coast is designed by the ocean. The ocean's surf ("abrasion") comes up to the steep coast and carries it off. At a cliff, where the erosion process is still active and the surf reaches the cliff, this is called an "active or living cliff". This contrasts with the "inactive or dead cliff", where the cliff is rarely achieved by the surf and therefore it is hardly changing.
Besides the sea also rain and wind constantly change the coast. Waves are eroding the cliff and lying layers plunge into the sea. The balinesan islands are a good exemple to understand the cycle of rocks: rock particles are transported by rivers into the sea, come to the surface again and now the erosion brings it back to the sea.
