And I won't forget the men who died (GC81GRP): LETTER = the number of columns of soldiers’ names on the front plaque + 3

The 12th Ward Memorial originally featured an honor roll of 666 men and women from the 12th Ward serving in World War II, including up to 21 who died.  The memorial was formally dedicated on May 30, 1945.  The stone obelisk with a light at its apex was built by Altoona stone mason Samuel Lombardo.  There were three plaques with WWII names and a 4th plaque was planned to contain the names of World War I veterans.  The bronze plaques with the names are missing along with the light at the apex.  The memorial had become a hazard and the city officials were going to raze it unless repairs were made.  Renovations were made thanks to the leadership and hard work by veteran Joe Keirn, retired Army command sergeant major.  The memorial was repaired and repointed by masons, and  new honor rolls made of mahogany and covered with clear plastic laminate.
