Il Nazario Sauro è un sottomarino a propulsione diesel della Marina Militare Italiana, capostipite della prima serie della classe Sauro, consegnato alla Marina il 12 febbraio 1980. Attualmente è una nave museo ormeggiato nel porto antico di Genova, e costituisce uno dei tre sottomarini esposti in Italia insieme all'Enrico Toti (S 506) a Milano e all'Enrico Dandolo (S 513) a Venezia (tutti e due della classe precedente, la classe Toti).
l battello prende il nome dal tenente di vascello Nazario Sauro, medaglia d'oro al valor militare, patriota ed esponente dell'irredentismo italiano del primo conflitto mondiale. In precedenza nella Regia Marina era stato intitolato il cacciatorpediniere Nazario Sauro, che prese parte alla seconda guerra mondiale affondando nelle acque del Mar Rosso alle 9 del mattino del 3 aprile 1941 in seguito ad un attacco aereo inglese; la nave, centrata da una bomba da 224 kg s'inabissò in appena mezzo minuto. Nell'affondamento perirono 78 uomini dell'equipaggio.
Il battello, in disarmo dal 1º maggio 2002, è stato ormeggiato presso l'Arsenale militare marittimo della Spezia insieme all'unità gemella Carlo Fecia di Cossato, dove è stato, dal 2008, oggetto di un'opera di restauro per la trasformazione in museo, attuata per conto del Mu.MA - Istituzione Musei del Mare e della Navigazione di Genova, da parte della società Fincantieri, la stessa che lo aveva costruito alla fine degli anni settanta (allora Italcantieri).
All'alba del 18 settembre 2009 il Nazario Sauro ha lasciato l'arsenale spezzino per la sua ultima missione: trainato da rimorchiatori ha raggiunto il porto antico di Genova dove il 26 settembre è stato ormeggiato nella Darsena davanti al Galata − Museo del mare.

The Nazario Sauro is a diesel-powered submarine of the Italian Navy, progenitor of the first series of the Sauro class, delivered to the Navy on 12 February 1980. It is currently a museum ship moored in the ancient port of Genoa, and is one of the three submarines exposed in Italy together with Enrico Toti (S 506) in Milan and Enrico Dandolo (S 513) in Venice (both of the previous class, the Toti class).
The boat takes its name from the Lieutenant Nazario Sauro, a gold medal for military valor, patriot and exponent of Italian irredentism in the First World War. Previously, in the Royal Navy, the destroyer Nazario Sauro was named, taking part in the Second World War, sinking in the waters of the Red Sea at 9 am on April 3, 1941 following a British air attack; the ship, hit by a 224 kg bomb, sank in just half a minute. In the sinking 78 men of the crew perished.
The boat, which was disarmed from 1 May 2002, was moored at the Maritime Military Arsenal of La Spezia together with the sister unit Carlo Fecia of Cossato, where it was, since 2008, the object of a restoration work for the transformation into a museum , implemented on behalf of the Mu.MA - Sea Museums and Navigation Organization of Genoa, by the company Fincantieri, the same that had built it in the late seventies (then Italcantieri).
At dawn on September 18, 2009, the Nazario Sauro left the arsenal of La Spezia for his last mission: towed by tugboats he reached the ancient port of Genoa where on September 26 he was moored in the Darsena in front of the Galata - Maritime Museum.
Designed by the architect Roberto Bajano, it is the first ship-museum in Italy visible in the water.
The public opening took place on 29 May 2010.
