Geocache Description:

Standardisation is the process by which groups, nations or trading blocs agree upon the technical specifications of products and goods to ensure compatibility, quality, correct repetition, and safety.

Currently the International Organization for Standardization is the body setting the largest number of worldwide voluntary standards.

You can see standardisation in lots of places of everyday life, such as ISO 216 which specifies paper sizes, such as the A4 on which you might have printed out the details of this cache.

Take the humble payment card, for instance: how can it be ensured that your card will work across the world on your travels to fit all ATMs and card readers?

All this is specified by ISO/IEC 7810, setting out a standard size, details such as rounded corners, and even physical properties such as bendiness and flammability, which is also used by many national ID cards and driving licenses, including the UK card licence.

Lately, standardisation has had to be applied to many computer hardware and software formats, including ISO/IEC 10918 covering JPEG files.

Evidently, the cache is not at the published co-ordinates, although one should always remember to stay safe near roads.
