This cache is placed to commemorate Bartlow station which was opened on 28 October 1866 by the Saffron Walden Railway. The early map and more recent overhead view show the station buildings (those marked on the map in yellow are station buildings, the cross is the cache position in relation to them). Note that the road on the map is not in use now, but there is a much more recent road which runs parallel to the railway embankment:
