Girlschool
Girlschool is an all-female British rock band that formed in 1978 and are still active after forty years, making them one of the longest running bands of all time. The band underwent a few line up changes but the principle members are Kim McAuliffe, Enid Williams, Denise Dufort, and Kelly Johnson. Jackie Chambers stepped in as the lead guitarist when Johnson passed away in 2007 and the lineup has remained unchanged for the past eleven years.
The fact of being a band composed of women has been perceived as a handicap in the sexist and male-dominated rock scene, especially in the early 1980s, when metal was rapidly taking the place of punk music in Great Britain. However, Girlschool's good musicianship and their aggressive but fun-loving attitude quickly won over audiences gaining them a loyal fan base. Although their music has rarely appeared on pop charts, they have earned the respect of their peers and played with many of music's best producers and performers, all of who hold Girlschool in the highest esteem.
