Have the winter caching blues? Come to this event and improve your tree-climbing ability by taking an (optional) indoor rock-climbing lesson with your fellow geocachers! (Or just come out and say hi)
This event will be held on Saturday February 2nd, 2019, from 5:45pm - 6:15pm. There will be a meet-and-greet in the party room section of the facility. Here you can chat with your fellow cachers, try on a climbing harness and pose for photos, and even pretend to climb an invisible wall.
If you wish to attend the OPTIONAL post-event activity of a climbing lesson with your fellow cachers from 6:30pm - 7:30pm (and unlimited use of the facilities from 7:30 until they close at 11pm), you must contact me through my profile page for more information and to ***register in advance***.
Spectators are welcome during this optional activity; however you may be required to sign a waiver. Contact me for further details. I will be on hand to greet fellow cachers at any point from 5:45 - 7:30pm. You are welcome to observe the group lesson as long as we stay off the grey mats. There is a small seating area beside where the lesson will be taking place.
To find us from 5:45 - 6:15pm, enter the door that is off the parking lot (please see reference points). This will lead you into an open area with another door at the end of it. Once you go through that door, you will be in the climbing gym. Turn IMMEDIATELY left and walk down almost to the end (if you reach a grey mat and a climbing wall, you've gone too far. Please do not step up onto the grey climbing mats underneath the climbers). There is a large open space "party room" on your left; that's where we'll be. If staff question you, you can say you're just there to meet your friends. If you are lost, you can ask staff for the location of the party room and they will direct you.
If you wish to find us from 6:30pm - 7:30pm at the optional post-event activity group lesson, walk in a straight line all the way to the back wall as soon as you come through the doors. This is where the lesson will be held. I will be easy to find as I'll be wearing a white T-shirt with "yellow.warbler" on the back, along with my green climbing harness. Again, please remember to stay OFF the grey mats under the climbers if you are observing. Staff may require you to sign a waiver otherwise.
Directions help: The posted coordinates are for the entrance to the facility. See the two posted reference points for directions on how to access the parking lot as it can be a bit confusing. While Google Maps shows that Thackeray road is a city road, you may be surprised to see the condition it is in. It is an unpaved road and has a reputation for being one of the worst in the city. The pot holes are often very large and deep, so take extra care with your vehicle or if you are walking on foot. The city periodically fills these holes but unfortunately after a rain it all goes back to the way it was. This is the ONLY way to access the posted coordinates so make sure you study the route well so you don't get lost. The road is no joke - at times I feel like I need an ATV just to get back there:
