This cache celebrates the Catholic church in Newmarket and is hidden within view of the church. There is a large Irish population in Newmarket because of the racing industry and so it is also a town with many Catholic worshippers. A very prominent town centre church is the Catholic church of Our Lady and St Etheldreda, built in the 1970’s. It always has a large congregation, and other events are held there throughout the week.
A convent, school and chapel were established in Newmarket during the 19th century, dedicated to St Louis, and St Louis school is still thriving on the Fordham Road not far from the church.
Although the most familiar view of St Etheldreda is the great east window seen from the bus station and Guineas car park direction, the church entrance is at the west end.
