Mjölkbord har förekommit i Sverige sedan 1917 för att underlätta insamlingen av opastorierad
mjölkin till den lokala mjölkcentralen för vidare förädling och processering. Mjölkbord var en vanlig
syn längs Sveriges landsvägar då mjölkbönder sedan 1920-talet ålades att anlägga dessa och på 1950-
talet uppskattades antalet till ca 100 000. Idag är mjölkbryggor en relativt ovanlig, men dekorativ syn
längs vägarna då dess funktion upphörde under slutet av 1970-talet.
Idag samlas mjölk in via mjölkbilar som anländer direkt till bondgårdarna, tankar mjölken och
transporterar den till närmsta mejeri för processering till ost, smör, grädde, pastoriserad mjölk och
andra produkter.

Milk churn stands have been a common sight along the roads of Sweden since 1917. They were used
for facilitating the collection and transportation of unpasteurized milk to the local milk central for
further processing and refinement. Dairy farmers were obliged to build and place milk churn stands
along the roads in the 1920s, and by the 1950s there were an estimated 100 000 built across the
whole country. Milk churn stands ceased to be used for milk collection by the end of the 1970s and
are today a relatively uncommon but decorative sight along the roads.
Today, milk is collected by tankers directly at the dairy farms and transported to local dairies for
processing it into cheese, butter, cream, pasteurized milk and other products.
