Geocache Description:

Something a bit different designed to give people who either don't fancy shopping, or are bored waiting for a bus or just have time to kill (this should take no more than 30-40 mins) - remember to bring a pen/pencil! cheeky

The cache is located at N55 56.A(B-1)(C-4) W003 1D.(E-3)(F-1)G.

  • (N55 56 294 W003 18.874) "The Time Capsule" The posted coordinates will take you to the entrance of the centre and has a time capsule buried here and will be there for another 24 years! To find the value of B, look at the ground in this central bit for a plaque for the date it was buried (? of September 1993) ? = B.
  • (N55 56.260 W003 18.867) "The old 3D map" If sticking to the order, the next nearby waypoint is the old 3D map of the shopping centre here that has some very old names on it that have changed over the years lol :) To find the value of C, there is a plaque on the front of the map with 1993 McIlroy Coates on it. Looking at the last line of this plaque, you'll see 2 words. To find C, just look for the first of these words and count the number of letters to = C.
  • (N55 56 228 W003 18.888) "The 8 pillars" Not far from this map are the 8 pillars - these mini stone pillars have random carvings of names and numbers on them. No need to thoroughly examine them all lol, but look for the one that mentions "Hesperus" and "Silver Wave" To find F, simply find the 3 digit numbers under each word that start with "BF..." and find the 2nd digit of the number under "Silver Wave" to = F.
  • (N55 56.215 W003 18.933) "The GYLE sign" Now, the next waypoint is something I might actually consider turning into a possible Earthcache at some point (if anyone fancies doing that EC themselves, seriously go for it!), but it's the big stone sign at the entrance. At the base of this big sign is a plaque with a very cool carving on it, but all you need is to look at the first 2 lines for a mention of the age of the limestone here (A10 million years old). Just simply find the missing digit and HALVE it to get A.
  • (N55 56.287 W003 19.017) "Spade statue" Now, going in the western direction, you'll come across the Spade statue, another interesting sight around here. For this waypoint, look for a handcarved number on the back (M9?) Find the missing digit and DOUBLE it to find D.
  • (N55 56 233 W003 18.768) "Veil statue" Now, going in the complete opposite direction is another statue called "Veil". Simply look at the plaque of this statue for the sculptor's SURNAME and count the # of letters to = E.
  • (N55 56.220 W003 18.682) "Fossil Tree" Sticking in this direction is another statue called the "Fossil Tree". Look carefully enough and you might see the fossils in it, but for now, look for the plaque and count the # of letters in the sculptor's FIRST name and then HALF it to = G.

Now you should have all the clues, the Checksum is North = 13. West = 24 (after calculations). I'll add a checker just in case with exactly where it is - there's plenty of free WiFi from the buses that stay parked at the main entrance, so go for it, and obviously be careful crossing between waypoints. :)

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.

Hope you enjoy!

- Dwarf. :)
