To misquote means to repeat something someone has said in a way that is not accurate.
So why do we often misquote from movies, even when we have seen the movie multiply times?
The main reason is our brains really like fluency in taking and retrieving information. We more readily remember a smoother sound and so our brains have a tendency to change the quote to make it “sound” right, and thus making it easier to store and recall at a later date. Funny enough the misquote is often catchier then the original.
