Geocache Description:

In 1951, Charles Oliver Wellington, as the behest of Bink Glisson, purchased 16,000 acres in what is now the Village of Wellington. Concerned with the constant flooding, Charles created the Acme Drainage District. The original purpose of his purchase was to create agricultural properties. The land was fertile due to the constant flooding and many crops including strawberries and grapefruit were grown on this land. After Mr. Wellingtons death in 1959, his son Roger decided, in order to pay the estate taxes, to begin developing the property. In 1972, Alcoa Aluminum began to develop the property; and in 1976 sold their interest to Gould Florida. The development of this Village was a complete transformation of the area. They hired land developers and designers to develop one of the first true planned unit development in Palm Beach County. They thought of everything, including these community parks. The original documents for the Village included shopping centers, schools, and even church sites. These community parks were part of the original plan. For many years the Acme Improvement District cared for these parks until 1995 when the Village of Wellington was incorporated. These caches are located in the parks and are easy to get to.
