Geocache Description:

"Holy Smoke" was the ancient practice of setting fire to gifts meant for the gods. Deities were presumed to inhabit the Heaven above and since smoke rises the connection was made that burning items or offerings would transport them to their intended recipients. If one had need of a rushed delivery you could write out your prayer then ceremonially burn the paper to speed the request Heavenward in a cloud of "Holy Smoke". In modern times a fire is not required to send prayers quickly to Heaven. Just send your thoughts from anywhere any time! (In case anything should change there is a fire pit. Bring your own matches!)

Also the term "Holy Smoke" is used when special white smoke comes out of the chimney of the Sistine Chapel in Rome indicating that a new Pope has been elected.

Parking available in church lot off of E. 88th Street.
