The purpose of this event is to allow cachers both local and from afar to join forces to work together on CARW2019 mystery caches which will be released just prior to this event. The theme of this CARW is "YEG TV".
Event Details!
When: February 21, 2019 from 6:30 PM to 9 PM.
Where: TrimLine located at 3779 39 ST, Whitecourt. Doors will be unlocked from 6:30 to 7 PM. If you arrive after 7PM, please, knock and we will let you in!
What to bring: Bring along paper and writing utensils. Feel free to bring along your lap top or phones to access puzzles. We will try to have puzzles printed off, as we go, as well as, hopefully, a list of all caches, once they are released, so you can start planning your routes. If you have a lawn chair, feel free to bring it, as seating may become limited. We will not be supplying refreshments, so feel free to bring your own. Please, no alcohol.
Why: To solve puzzles for the upcoming CARW2019 event! This is a great way for fellow cachers to help one another and meet up.
CARW2019 stands for Cache and Release Winter 2019. It is a winter gathering of geocachers from Edmonton and surrounding areas, where cachers search for a number of recently-released, winter-friendly caches.
To clarify, this event is a satellite CARW2019 event, and not the main CARW2019 kick-off event.
CARW2019 will be held during the nine-day period from February 22 to March 2, 2019. Cache finding start time is 9:00 A.M. Saturday February 23rd and the cache finding end time is 11 a.m. Saturday March 2nd.
Please DO NOT hunt for caches before the start time. The "Wrap Up" event cache will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday March 2nd. with prizes awarded at or about noon. CARW2019 is a "fun for the whole family" event with a focus on "Quality Caching".
This year's theme will be "YEG TV" so go out there and hide some caches based on your favorite TV show!
Edmonton and area Geocachers hide winter friendly caches in the designated event area. Caches are submitted for review on or before the Cache Submission Deadline of Friday, February 15, 2019.
The Early Bird Deadline (CO's name goes in for a draw of a prize) is Friday, February 8, 2019. The volunteer reviewer holds the caches for publication on the "release date", Thursday February 21, 2019. about 6:00 P.M.
Upon publication, participants prepare for the event by solving puzzles, planning their routes, and, for some, forming teams to hunt for caches. A "Kick Off" event is held on Friday evening for people to get together to make their preparations. On Saturday morning February 23rd at 9:00 A.M. everyone hits the trails to hunt for caches. Other associated event caches are held during the week for people to get together, warm up, and tell tall tales about their adventures.
On Saturday afternoon, March 2nd, everyone heads for the Wrap Up event.
CARW2019 is a fun-filled geocaching extravaganza that is free for all to attend! All Geocachers are welcome. Old, experienced and new-alike are all welcome to attend. Those who have never attended a CARW event before will be welcomed. There is something for everyone at our event and we look forward to making new friends as we geocache together! The cache placement radius limit for CARW2019 is smaller than previous years to accommodate the quality focus, and is off centered. The center is planned to be changed each year. This year the center is to the East. The designated area for placing event caches is shown in the graphic below.
