I love almost everything about Germany and am proud of my German roots so I figured I would recreate a series of caches I did in Germany here in NE Ohio. I hope you enjoy them as much as the Germans did.
Each of the people in this series were Made (born) in Germany. Later in life they immigrated to America and became citizens of United States. Many of them had a great influence on the USA and the rest of the world. I hope that each person who completes this series learns a little bit more about how our two countries, German and The United States of America, are forever connected. So here we go! See if you can figure out who this person is or was..
To solve the mystery you need to determine the person and there year of birth and death.
HINT:
I am a man.
I was born in the Upper Franconia area of what is now Bavaria,
I am dead.
Too difficult? These hints might make it easier.
There is a good chance that you have something I made in your house right now.
I never married.
First I lived in New York City, then Louisville Kentucky, and later I lived in San Francisco.
I opened my company in San Francisco in 1847.
Do you know who I am now? No?
I left Germany when I was 18 and became a US citizen in January 1853
I was the first to mass produce what I am famous for.
The University of California, Berkeley has a Foundation in my name which began in 1897.
Almost everyone in the USA has some of what I produced even though it might be produced by a different company.
You can find the final at:
N 41 (34.263 - Year of Birth)
W 81 (36.225 + Year of Death)
