Geocache Description:

This is a magnetized small container. Bring a pen to sign the log. There is room for small trackables. Sunday morning will see more muggles. Better parking can be found across the street in the empty lot. Please obey the no trespassing signs at the village. Visitation is allowed if you contact the owners.

Yellow Dog Village was built during the late 1910s and early 1920s. It was built by the Pittsburgh Limestone Mining Company to house workers, providing them with higher wages, close proximity to the mine, and better treatment as long as they promised not to unionize. Limestone mining came to an end around 1933 due to the great depression. Moonlight Mushroom bought the mines in 1935 and operated until 1952. Many families stayed in the village and worked at other locations in the area after the mine closed.

Many families lived here and hundreds of children were raised here over the years but in the 1970s water and sewage became an issue. The last few residents left in 2011 leaving a ghost town. Unfortunately the town was used as a hangout for those who did not care to preserve history and much destruction was done. The houses have most of the windows broken and the insides vandalized.

In 2014 Joseph Meyer and Amber Glaslow bought the little town. They hope to eventually turn it into a camp where visitors can be educated about the skills and the life of the past. This is where you can go for more information on Yellow Dog Village. http://www.yellowdogvillage.com/index.htm
