This event is held in one of the many rotundas in Ballarat.
Built in 1908 during the heyday of the band movement, the Queen Alexandra Bandstand is now one of the few remaining examples of bandstands in Victoria. It also reflects the prominence of music in Ballarat's cultural and civic identity. It is a typical and well resolved example of creative bandstand design; the onion dome is representative of bandstands of this period and the fine wrought iron detailing incorporates musical motifs. The Queen Alexandra Bandstand is an important and exotic element of the streetscape of Sturt Street.
