Born in Ottawa January 11, 1939, Anne Heggtveit won Canada's first-ever Olympic skiing GOLD MEDAL at the 1960 Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley, California. Her victory in Olympic slalom made her the first non-European to win World Championship in both slalom and combined.
Upon her return to Ottawa, the city presented her with a white MG sports car.
Now 80, Anne resides in Vermont, and continues to ski.
Update 2024: Anne is now 85, has had two knee replacements, and no longer skis.
