Geocache Description:

The church is to be found on the east side of the Underbarrow to Crook road, at Grid-Ref SD-463926. You enter by the main gate, in the lane and there you will find the church situated in a peaceful location looking over the beck, and across the valley. The first church on the site was built in 1547, to replace a pre-Reformation chapel nearby. The second church replaced it in 1708, and the present church, dedicated to All Saints, was built in 1869. The church silver, the single bell, and the Library Box all date from the earlier buildings. Otherwise, this is very Victorian church building. Pevsner called it ‘naughty’ - probably because of its unusual octagonal tower and mini-spire.

The church is usually open to visitors from 9am to 4pm. On the table inside the door is a bat with a short guide to the church; copies are available as a leaflet. Note particularly the wooden font and matching altar-rail, and the stained glass dating from 1869 to 1955.

All Saints, Underbarrow.
