Jack On The Rocks Traditional Cache

Jack Madigan Reserve is located on the corner of Challis Street Street and Mason Street, which at most times of the day is reasonably busy as it connects Newport to Altona North. The reserve was named after a former Newport councillor and first opened as a navy oil storage tank after World War II. Once the tank was removed the location became a council tip from 1974-1984.

In recent years the community of Newport raised awareness of the dangerous site and after 8 years of closure, they were able to rebuild it in 2013. People wove flowers and ribbons through the fence and it began to catch peoples’ eyes. After they gained approval, the community worked together for two years to create the quaint reserve it is today. Jack Madigan Reserve was reopened on August 23^rd, 2015.

The cache is your usual mints tin. Well camouflaged into its location so remember to look carefully. But don’t just keep your eyes peeled for the cache, muggles are almost always present in this area so get your ninja skills ready! Happy hunting!
