Number 66 on the Kings Bay trail trail continues with more of the Kings Bay story. Installment number 9: The Ohio-class subs are aging now and they are scheduled to be replaced, one each year, beginning in 2027. The replacements, construction of which is scheduled to begin in 2021, will have advanced nuclear power plants that will not have to be refueled over the life of the ship, which will allow much more time at sea. High-tech enhancements will likely be an important role; with the current rate of high-tech advancement, surely there will be significnt upgrades as time goes by. And while no announcement has been made as to where these next-generation machines will be based, what better place could there be than Kings Bay, Georgia?
