Geocache Description:

Tankerhoosen River Pine Grove Cache. Note the change to the FINAL LOCATION! If you logged here before, you are welcome to log it again.

Welcome to the Tankerhoosen River Pine Grove Cache. We hope you’ll enjoy the lovely walk in these majestic pines. This cache sits inside part of the Belding Wildlife Management Area.

Maxwell Belding donated 282 acres, in Vernon, to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the purpose of wildlife management and environmental education.

This cache was originally located at N41 49.917 W72 26.705. We moved the cache 3/10 of a mile away from that location. The are three available parking areas.
The first allows you to access the major trout pond and the pine trees of this property. It is located on Break and Milk Road (N41 49.717 W72 26.810), with the entrance to the wildlife area at N41 49.772 W72 26.837. Walk on the road, and you will be entering an area of pine trees. There are several paths in the area. Take a look at the pond that is formed by the Tankerhoosen River. This area is a catch and release fishing area. There are trout in the pond and river. The shortest rout will be to take the blue trail to the left of the ponds. The blue trail goes in both directions.

The second allows you to access the Old Vernon Cemetery. This cemetery has solders from the revolution and many other original Vernon residents buried here. The parking in located on Bamforth Road (N41 50.124 W72 26.933). You will need to climb over a low stone wall and go down the hill until you com onto the blue trail, once you find the blue trail take a left and follow the rest of the directions.

The third allows you access to another cache within this area, and is located on Reservoir Road (N41 50.164 W72 26.478). This location has multiple trails, but you will find it easies to take the yellow and blue tail toward the cemetery area.

Points of interest:

From parking area 1, there is the main pond area. This is a good area for fly fishing for the trout. This is a catch and release location. There is a dam and bridge located here at N41 49.856 W72 26.879. On either end of this dam are two gear type items. If you now what they are please let me know. I have posted a picture of the gear. You can see the old cabin that was on the property. Now it is just a chimney. It is located at N41 49.944 W72 26.778.

Following the blue trail toward Bamforth Road, there is a natural spring. This spring is located at N41 50.007 W72 26.885. Continuing along the blue tail is an old bridge. The size of this bridge looks like it would have allowed horses and carts to cross. It is located at N41 50.084 W72 26.796.

From parking area 2, and along the blue trail, is the first of three bridges. The first bridge is located at N41 50.122 W72 26.802. The second bridge is located at N41 50.208 W72 26.707. The third bridge is located at N41 50.224 W72 26.630, and joins the blue and yellow/blue trails.

From parking area 3, along the yellow/blue trail you will find the primary bridge at N41 50.224 W72 26.630.
From the primary bridge, you will want to walk along the river. You will want to walk on the left, down stream side, of the river.
Please log what you have taken and left.
