På ældre kort fra generalmajor Classens tid lå grunden langs kanalen ubebygget hen. Den blev benævnt Artilleripladsen og blev brugt til opbevaring af kanoner under åben himmel.
Arsenalet og Projektilmagasinet er opført samtidig omkring år 1800. Her opbevaredes våben og ammunition, såsom projektiler, kugler og raketter til brug for Det kongelige Artillerikorps. I 1932 blev Arsenalet indrettet og åbnet som museum for Frederiksværk og omegn. En del år senere overgik også Projektilmagasinet til museet.

Bygningerne er nu hjemsted for Kulturtjeneste Halsnæs, som bygger bro og samarbejder mellem kommunens kulturaktører og skoler. I bygningerne udfoldes mange forskellige åben-skole-aktiviteter, bl.a. lokalhistoriske læringsforløb og udstillinger, hvor børn og unge har mulighed for at træde ud af det traditionelle klasseværelse og selv arbejder med historien i et autentisk læringsmiljø - lige midt i den stålsatte by.

Frederiks Vaerk Museum of Industry
When studying old maps from the time of General Major Classen it shows that the area along the canal was nearly an empty space. It was called Artillery Square and was used for storing cannons under open sky. The Arsenal and the Ammunition Storage was both built around 1800 and served as storages for weapons and ammunition like bullets, cannonballs and rockets belonging to The Royal Danish Artillery and Rocket Corps.
In 1932 the Arsenal was turned into a museum for the municipality of Frederiksvaerk. A few years later the Ammunition Storage came under the museum as well.
Today the buildings are used by Halsnaes Cultural Service and co-creational educational activities. The buildings are used as both exhibition and work labs where children and young people step out of the traditional classroom working with the story in authentic surroundings – right in the middle of the city printed in steel. Halsnaes Cultural service contains brand new museum and learning functions and produces knowledge-based learning for the benefit of the society and future generations.
