Geocache Description:

I have always liked looking out for these barn quilts while out for a drive or caching along the back roads, it kind of makes the drive a little more pleasant in

HURON COUNTY.

GRANNY'S COMPASS ROSE

This is a 140 acre farm that's has the Maitland River bordering two sides of the property. This farm has been in the Garniss Family since 1872. The present day family member has been running it for the last 30+ years as a cow/calf operation with primarily the raising of limo cattle. This barn quilt was painted and designed for her by her daughter as a Mother's Day gift.

NORAH'S PINWHEEL

The property is an old school house and this happens to be the 3rd school to be built on this property. They were built in 1860, 1880 and 1967. The present day property owners are the 4th to own this place since it was converted to a private dwelling. This Quilt is named after their granddaughter and also that it looks like a pinwheel, it is hung on the north wall and at one time you could have signed it. It has over 4,000 signatures as people signed it here at this location at one time (the use of a ladder then), as well as it also has been at the Brussels Fall Fair and the IPM 2017.. They are proud to show their Barn Quilt and hope that everyone enjoys checking out all the other quilts as a lot of people have put thought, care, creativity, designing, painting and mounting throughout the countryside. Also to show support for the 150 anniversary of Canada.

IPM 2017 is where the barn quilt craze mainly started in Huron County as a contest.

Barn quilts originally started there roots in Ohio.

Barn quilts tell stories.

The proper size for a barn quilt is 8'x8'.

They draw motorists to our rural highways, roads that have many stories to tell.

Barn Quilts are rural graffiti – civic art about sacred places, battlefields, and historic locations.

Cache is located by a deep ditch.

As usual always WATCH YOUR STEP, CAN BE A BUSY ROAD, WATCH FOR TRAFFIC.

PLEASE DO NOT FIND this cache at night - the placement is contingent on finds OCCURRING DURING THE DAY.

ABSOLUTELY NO NIGHT CACHING, RESPECT THE NEARBY HOMEOWNERS. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH QUITE A FEW OF THEM AND ASSURED THEM THAT THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN.

Happy Caching
